Exam Experience and Study Tips on Discipline Section by Simandhar’s CPA Alumnus
Are you also feeling puzzled with how to start preparing for the Discipline section you chose under the CPA Evolution, 2024?
We at Simandhar, have 2 ISC Discipline topper alumni who have scored 95 and 94 out of 99, in the 1st ever Discipline section exam in CPA Evolution 2024. One of our CPA alumnus, Kameswaran Sriram, who has cleared his ISC Discipline section of CPA exam 2024, has shared his invaluable experience with us on how to strategize while preparing for the Discipline exam. Read below what he advised our students.
- As I was among the first of the students to appear in the ISC Discipline under CPA Evolution, I had no experience or practice tests to prepare for the exam. What I religiously followed is Becekr’s textbook. At the same time, Sripal Jain sir’s words from his FAR classes always kept echoing in my head: “You can follow any number of books and course providers that you want but if your concepts are clear, there is nothing to fear”.
- I followed Simandhar’s CPA faculty, Mr. Akshay Jaishwal sir’s classes where he gave us a real-life experience from his workplace.
- I am a full-time master’s student in Australia, working 24 hours a week, and with the little time that I had, I sacrificed the pleasures of hanging out during weekends to crack this paper.
- I spent one solid month preparing for this paper and devoted about 6 hours a day for the first 20 days. During the last 10 days before the exam, I studied and revised for an average of 12 hours a day. To top my fire on the belly, I had scheduled my exams even before I started preparing.
- In the last ten days, I attempted the mocks and went back to revising core concepts from S3 and S4 since I felt they could have been stronger.
- On the exam day, I focus more on reading the questions carefully and answering it without going overboard with the stipulated time.
I am going to say three mantras which I believe is necessary to complete the CPA exam successfully:
- Whatever it is that you are dealing with — it is just a state of mind and has nothing to interfere with your studies. If you are struggling with mental issues, talk to someone and get yourself together, as time, once lost, can never be earned.
- Think about the dopamine rush that you’ll have if you won the lottery, which enables you to buy anything and keep cultivating this mindset that you are a CPA already, which would open a world full of opportunities.
- If (a) or (b) above is just too much for you to follow, I’ll end this by saying “if you do not take action to better yourself now, you’ll be forced to settle for less”. Again, the clock is ticking!!
